Succeed in the Beats?

After a fucking shed load of gigs, it's become a tad irritating that some bands think that the world is just going to fall at their feet. No, I'm not gonna spend money on your merch. You couldn't even be arsed to bring a crowd to a proper-nice-venue-and-could've-been-decent-gig in your hometown.

Your tunes might be dead up to scratch but instead of awkwardly asking what crowd there may be to "err... maybe stand up and errr... come closer?" and generally looking a cunt, maybe try telling a few people that you have a show.

Anyway, fellow locals Not Great Men have put some new songs on their myspace which are well worth a listen or two. 'America' is a tune n' half.

JARVILL GOT JUICED..?

It might be a bit late because of stuff like Bedouin Soundclash (who were proper good fun at Cockpit on Tuesday night) but massive, massive thanks to you lot who came down and packed out the 360 Club on the 22nd. It was a quality time, and we got the whole set recorded for anyone who didn't manage to come down so be on the look out for that appearing in the next for weeks after the tracks have been mastered.

We played with Eskimo Sandwich, who were fucking brilliant! Check them out here

We've got a few out of town shows coming up in the next few months, check the ol' myspace for deets. Also, we're returning to play at Brudenell on 30th November, which is surely gonna be crackerjack, naturally.

WHERE ARE THE BLONDE THESE DAYS?

Holoman is back in Atlanta until new year so have a listen to Marcus' other band Rolla the Dice. If you search for them on Spotify you can have a gander at their new 3-track EP for no pennies at all. Barg.

Who Said That Chivalry Was Dead?

Cyanide and Happiness, a daily webcomic

Funny, eh?

TO THE MYSPACE FOR THE NEW TRACK YEAAAAH - Check it.
"To Be A Gentleman"

Imagine the Smiths first bedroom demo's...

Stuff's quietened down for the band since Mark left for America but we have full intention of progressing with a new member in the next few months so keep an eye out!

In the meantime, you can have a read of some of the things people are writing about our band:

(Click on link to read full review)

"...a unique sound, an energy and extremely intense live show and a sense of urgency that bands of much greater maturity could definately learn a thing or two from..."

"...don't really give a shit about polished edges as long as the music is heard..."

"...guitar that would make Johnny Marr swoon..."

Wakey Wakey England

English football hasn't failed to once again disappoint this summer but fuck it; its festival season and the BBC have put stacks of Glastonbury footage online. If you only check one band on bbc.co.uk this week, make it the Cribs. Massive energy, and even though accused of sloppy play, the Wakey brothers and Marr musically attack with a passion that you just don’t see enough these days.

Huge love for this band.

Watch the full half hour of power right here.

19th June//Pack up Marks bags and leave...

Shiny new toy , right? You show it off, right? That's exactly what Lincolns two returning sons, Danny and Jarv, had in mind when we got on the bill for a mini festival in the city.
The set contained an eclectic mix of bands, who all gave it their all and put on a damn good show. The days events were held outside in the beer garden, with that great Northern wind keeping everyone cold as fuck...The evening however saw us take shelter upstairs in the Duke.

The venue itself is pretty class , sick stage and it can get real intimate but still accommodate a lot of people, for those who showed up at Milo it was sort of like that but about 10 times bigger.
Pretty awesome to play to a new crowd, although we had our ever loyal band of followers from Oxley A4 repping all the way from Leeds, whaaa'! Seriously , Tash, Steph, Oli and Chris get a big one for coming down, even if they did get lost and end up in Scunthorpe ( See Tinie Tempah it ain't so hard to go Scunny..)

First time we had a sound guy do sound on the go, wouldn't advise it but pulled it off well to keep us going so fuck it!

This is going to be the last gig Cables do 'till Autumn, when we'll be returning with a new set to keep you cunts happy and a new EP looks like it's also on the cards.

Unfortunately the final note on this blog has to be a rather upsetting one.

Mark Holland has to return to America to complete his degree and see his family. It's been an amazing year and it's quite upsetting that we have to see him go, you don't really make friends like Mark often, and you certainly don't find musicians of his caliber and dedication just like that either. None of us knew how fast and serious this band would get so it's come as a shock that the time is upon us for him to leave.
He'll keep himself busy over there though, watch this space for links to his new project when he touches back down in Boston.
Cables will miss you dearly.
You'll catch us expressing all the love in Dry Dock , Leeds, tomorrow evening. If you're about come have a pint and say bye to one of the finest drummers all of us in the band have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Much Love Sparky

10th/11th JUNE GIG // Exciting times..

So, after a great gig at Milo (check the photo-set by the magnificent Matt Grimshaw here), and 'Oxley Live' a few nights ago, what's next? Two shows in as many nights, big tings a gwan..

This coming Saturday Two outta Five of us shall be bringing it on home, to the 'shire. LINCOLNSHIRE THAT IS. Fanny Bloodhouse and myself shall be re-acquainting ourselves with the Duke (as the others get to see the dizzy, dizzy heights..), with a set as part of the Midsummer's Festival. EPs shall of course be on sale for a pound a pop, which is nothing short of a bargain, I'd say.

Speaking of which:

Practice is just too productive / We are just too cool for this shit

Folk Support and Gentlemen

The EP release went off without a hitch and every act put on smashing sets.

The heartfelt acoustic soloist Leesa Mae opened the night with a jubilant performance and although our music was slightly out of place alongside her and the folky sound of Me And My Friends, and Happy Red Tractors they were all supportive and stayed 'till the end. We headlined the show and unleashed a new song for the first time. Unfortunately this track isn't on our EP and will remain a treat you only get live, like our Indie-Smash-Hit Future Plans.

You can catch us live and hear these tunes at any of our upcoming gigs. We're playing in Leeds upstairs at Milo on Thursday, June 10th along with We Run Riot, and Proper Dogs for only a two pound entry fee. We'll also be playing Oxley Live the following day, June 11th at the Oxley Residences. Oxley Live will be our last show in Leeds for the time being, fitting because those halls were home to two of our band this year at Leeds Uni.

Finally, as an added treat for our loyal fans, a new song from our demo that isn't featured on Myspace is available for listening on www.reverbnation.com/cablescausefires

To Be A Gentleman, a song about being naughty.

Shifty Release + Mailing List

So, for the last few weeks (feels like longer?!) we've been recording and mixing 4 tracks with Shifty Chicken Records. Two tracks, 'Love This Torture' and 'The Talk' are on myspace.com/cablescausefires right now, so check those out if you haven't already.

We're releasing the songs on our new demo, Cables Cause Fires, on the 4th June at the 360 Club @ the Library. You can pick up a ticket from any of the band members for £4 and that gets you a free CD on the day aswell (potential house party afterwards too)!

We've also just had our first live review, from 14/05, on Leedsmusicscene.net so check that out at: http://www.leedsmusicscene.net/article/12839/
